Calgary, Alberta, February 24, 2016 - StoreSmart Self-Storage today announced its annual donation of more than $1,700 in support of Alberta SPCAs and Humane Societies, representing proceeds from the company’s $1 Move In Pledge.

“Per the pledge, StoreSmart Self-Storage will donate $1 from every unit rental at each of its individual locations throughout Alberta to that store’s local SPCA or Humane Society,” said Kim Sterling, President and Chief Operating Officer of StoreSmart Self-Storage. To date, this has included donations in support of the Bow Valley SPCA, the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, the Red Deer & District SPCA, and the Edmonton Humane Society. In addition, the company collects in-store donations on behalf of these organizations, and donates storage space when needed.

“It has been an especially difficult year for many Alberta families due to the decline in our economy. Our friends at the SPCA and Humane Society are feeling the pinch too, as the demand for their services is at near-record or record levels. Many hardworking folks have found themselves out of a job and out of options when it comes to the family pet, and because of this, instances of animal abandonment and surrender are up. Although we too are feeling the effects of the economy in the self-storage business, these local organizations need our help now more than ever. We are very proud to continue to be a part of that,” said Sterling.

SPCAs and Humane Societies help sick, injured, neglected, or abused animals by rescuing, rehabilitating, and re-homing them. They provide medical treatments and educate adults and children about responsible pet ownership. Anyone wishing to make an additional donation to any of the above organizations may do so by visiting any StoreSmart Self-Storage location or by visiting
