Job Posting, Part-Time Maintenance Technician/Groundskeeper (Canmore, AB)

StoreSmart Self-Storage is seeking a part-time Maintenance Technician/Groundskeeper for 24 hours per week (9am to 5pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays). The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, handy individual, with previous maintenance experience, who enjoys being busy and on-the-go. StoreSmart Self-Storage to provide tools and equipment as required.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Reporting for shifts on the days requested and/or scheduled by the Centre Manager;
  • Assisting Centre Manager and Assistant Manager in maintaining an exceptionally clean facility including yard, and building interiors and exteriors;
  • Performing yard maintenance, including keeping yard free of garbage and other debris, removing weeds, mowing grass and light shoveling and snow removal, as required;
  • Cleaning vacant storage units including wiping down walls and door, sweeping floor, baiting unit and lubricating door mechanism;
  • Performing janitorial duties including vacuuming buildings, and cleaning/restocking washrooms;
  • Performing minor building and equipment repairs and maintenance when required, including general roof and gutter maintenance;
  • Promptly reporting any Centre deficiencies that require attention to the Centre Manager or Assistant Manager;
  • Maintaining the Centre to ensure a safe environment for customers and staff;
  • Running errands off-site as required by Centre Manager or Assistant Manager;
  • Assisting the Manager and Assistant Manager with truck rentals and related minor maintenance (e.g. topping up fluids, re-fueling, adjusting tire pressure, etc.);
  • Other maintenance functions, as may be required by the Centre Manager or Assistant Manager;

The successful candidate will have:

  • The ability to work the designated shifts;
  • The ability to work additional hours, as site maintenance may require;
  • The ability to respond to urgent site maintenance issues, as and when they arise outside of scheduled shifts;
  • A dependable personal vehicle (pickup truck or cargo van) for use on the job (mileage will be reimbursed at $0.58 per kilometer);
  • The ability to work outdoors in both hot and cold conditions, sometimes on slippery surfaces, and sometimes for extended periods;
  • The ability to stand for extended periods of time;
  • The ability to lift, push or pull up to 23 kilograms;
  • The ability to crouch, bend or kneel to complete repairs;
  • The ability to use hand and power tools;
  • The ability to work with chemicals and products such as paint, degreasers, etc.;
  • The ability to climb step ladders and extension ladders;
  • The ability to work at varying heights;
  • Experience (professional or otherwise) with building maintenance and grounds-keeping;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • The ability to work independently as well as in a small team;
  • The ability to multi-task and prioritize activities;
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Great attitude and enthusiasm for helping people;
  • A valid Class 5 driver's license (candidates will be required to provide a current driver abstract and experience letter from insurer); and
  • A clean criminal record check.

Compensation:

  • $16.00-$18.00 per hour, depending on experience; and
  • Private health spending account in place offering medical, dental and vision coverage ($750 per annum).
